Lakers forward/center Pau Gasol had an ultrasound exam on his injured right foot on Tuesday afternoon, which revealed "continued healing and improvement" of the plantar fascia tear, according to team spokesman John Black.
This is good news for the Lakers, with Gasol after a Saturday 2-on-2 game experienced some pain in the foot he originally hurt in early February at Brooklyn. That is considered to be expected discomfort, and part of the normal healing process.
Gasol is expected to return sometime in the next two weeks, at earliest on Friday against Washington, depending how he feels throughout the next two days of workouts at the team's facility. No official date has been marked for a return, but subsequent to the Wizards game, the Lakers have Saturday and Sunday off before a road game at Golden State on Monday.
Meanwhile, Kobe Bryant – who missed the last two games and final three quarters at Indiana with a severely sprained left ankle – received treatment with L.A.'s training staff on Tuesday morning. He's not expected to participate in a light practice on Wednesday, but the team will see how he feels.
Bryant is listed as "day to day," and is expected to return to the floor sooner than later.
If so, it will be just the fourth time all season that Bryant, Gasol, Dwight Howard, Steve Nash and Steve Blake will all be in the lineup on the same night.
All five practiced with the team on Thursday, and Mike D'Antoni thinks both Bryant and Gasol be available to face the Wizards. The coach said Bryant will "be ready," despite some continued and expected soreness, and confirmed that as long as Gasol doesn't feel any unexpected additional pain on Friday morning, he'll play as well.
